Since the conception of National Poetry Day, Katikati dance teacher/writer Gaye Hemsley has organized a selection of events to celebrate the occasion. This year she will be visiting two retirement villages giving out daffodils and a post card featuring one of her poems

Friday 26th August

At 11.30 lovers of poetry are invited to

‘Chrome Café’ Katikati to share a poem.

As it is also Daffodil Day a donation to the Cancer Society would be appreciated.

Katikati residents are asked to take a walk in our local Haiku Path, email one of the featured haiku to [email protected] to go into the draw to win a bundle of new poetry books.

You don’t have to be a poet to enjoy the day. All it takes is a love of verse, anything from traditional stanza to haiku, hip hop and beyond. Poetry day is for taking poetry off the page and out into the streets, the airwaves, business meetings or the hairdressers. So wherever you happen to be on Poetry Day, just do it, recite a poem.
